Welcome to SLO NightWriters

General Meeting Program March 12th, 2019

 6:30 pm.

Susan Tuttle will be joining us this evening with her

presentation:

Brilliant Beginnings.

Brilliant Beginnings

Brilliant Beginnings

Most readers who are looking for a good book or story will look at your title and the cover picture. They will read the first paragraph or two before making the decision to continue with yours or look for something else. Some might read the whole first page. At best, they’ll give you five to ten seconds before either buying or moving on to another author. Five to ten seconds, that’s all you have to convince readers that your story is the right one for them. In this presentation, you will learn 8 opening sentence strategies, the Rule of Firsts, and a first-page blueprint that will help you lift your story opening from a good beginning to a Brilliant Beginning.

Susan Tuttle is a professional editor, speaker, writing instructor, poet and the multi-award-winning author of 6 suspense novels including Tough Blood, volume 1 of the Skylark series; 6 short story collections (including the 5-volume Tiny Tales series); a book of poetry; and 6 workbooks on writing fiction and creative nonfiction, based on the classes she teaches (the Write It Right series). Her short works have appeared in 5 anthologies and numerous literary magazines. Under the name Susan Grace O’Neill she writes Bible studies and meditations, her Journey With Jesus series. She is currently at work on three stand-alone mystery/suspense novels, the next books in the Skylark series, and two Young Adult fantasy series, and the next volume of Lord Let Me Grow. Active in SLO NightWriters and SinC Central Coast Chapter, she is also a member of SinC National and PSWA.

Round Tables Critique Sessions began at 5:15 pm

Terry Sanville and Susan Tuttle will be here to critique your work

Please keep your submission to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double spaced. This is a great—and safe—way to see what the critiquing process is all about, get valuable feedback from two fantastic writers, and practice reading your work to a small audience

Please note that there will be a charge of $5:00 for all non members who attend a critic group or round table. Payment will be accepted at the entrance to the meeting.

I hope to see you there.

Janice Konstantinidis.

President SLO NightWriters.
