SLO NightWriters 2008 Short Story Contest Winners to be Unveiled!
Mark your calendars! On September 9th at 7:00 pm at the Johnson Avenue Church of Christ Meeting Hall, the winners of the 2008 SLO NightWriters Short Story Contest will be announced. Prizes will be awarded to the top three stories. Each story begins with the phrase, "Night won't fall..." and consists of no more than 500 words. Come hear the Top Ten winning stories read and experience the amazing variations crafted by these creative authors. Meeting free to the public; refreshments served.

The Ingrid Reti Literary Grant will be awarded to a SLO County writer who address a sense of place, natural and/or cultural, in his/her work. Mediums can include novel, short story, poetry, play, or spoken word.

Applications are due Sept. 2nd

Early Bird Deadline for the CENTRAL COAST WRITERS' CONFERENCE

Youʼll save $30 on tuition if you register by August 15th for the Central Coast Writersʼ Conference XXVI which takes place on September 26 and 27, 2008 at Cuesta College. The conference offers 28 workshops in all genres of writing including fiction, nonfiction, children's literature, memoirs, mystery, screenwriting, freelancing, poetry, getting published and enhancing your overall creativity.

This yearʼs keynoter is NY Times bestselling author Bob Mayer. He has 38 books published under his own name and the pen name Robert Doherty. Bob graduated from West Point and served in the military as a Special Forces A-Team leader and a teacher at the JFK Special Warfare Center & School. He has over three million books in print including his latest novel, AGNES AND THE HITMAN co-authored with Jennifer Crusie. He teaches novel writing and team-building as a keynoter, speaker and consultant. 

The conference takes place on Friday evening and all day Saturday and includes 4 workshops, keynote speech, Friday evening reception, Saturday morning breakfast and TableTalks where you can mingle with authors, publishers, and agents. Friday night only and Saturday only options are available. Be sure to check out the writing competition and manuscript critique service. Teenagers are welcome to participate in the Young Writers Program which offers the full conference package at a reduced price.
