MEETINGS

SLO NightWriters monthly meetings feature guest speakers who discuss their area of writing or publishing expertise in informative talks. Visitors are encouraged to attend these meetings. It’s a great opportunity to meet other writers and find out about our organization. Admission is free and refreshments are served. At each meeting, we also feature a reading by a member of one of our workshops.

First Page Workshop

  • Unearth the secret of how to get your work noticed

  • Discover the key ideas that will sell your work

  • Learn tips for outstanding first pages for at least 8 different genres

The first 150-175 words can make or break a piece of writing. As writers we have to grab our audience (reader, editor, agent, publisher) within the first 3 paragraphs, or they lose interest - and we lose the sale.

On June 10, 2008, SLO NightWriters will present a hands-on workshop focusing on the first 150-175 words in both fiction and non-fiction. Panelists in each category will discuss what makes an outstanding first page and will critique submissions from the attending audience. Come learn what works, what doesn't, and how to make your first pages outstanding.

This workshop is open to the public. Anyone can bring the first 150-175 words of their work for critique. Please note the genre at the top of the page (author name optional). Designated readers will read all submissions.
