“Putting the Reader First: Pitching Nonfiction to Print and Online Media"
Editors and publishers of print and online media need words (and pictures) that give their readers news, ideas, and information they can use. So who needs—and wants—your words? What does the market for nonfiction articles, reviews, essays, and commentary look like? If your forte is fiction, is switching gears to nonfiction difficult, or can you wield your writing skills to find new, rewarding outlets for your words?
Charlotte Alexander is an award-winning author and editor with experience in media, higher education, public relations, and nonprofit settings. She is editor and publisher of SLO Review, a nonprofit website covering the visual, performing, and literary arts in SLO County. She has been writing reviews of local theatre productions since 2010, first in local publications and later on her website Wise to the Words; her work has appeared in SLO Life Magazine, SLO Journal Plus, SLO City News, and Two for the Show {Central Coast}. She is the co-author of When Your Pet Outlives You: Protecting Animal Companions After You Die (New Sage Press 2002; reprinted 2004) which won a Muse Medallion Book Award from the Cat Writers' Association. She owns and operates CC Imprint, a publishing company that recently published a book, It's Good To Be King, by the late Central Coast broadcast and print journalist King Harris.

Round Tables Critique Sessions begin at 5:15pm
Terry Sanville and Mark Arnold will be here to critique your work
Please keep your submission to two pages, typed, 12-point font, double spaced. This is a great—and safe—way to see what the critiquing process is all about, get valuable feedback from two fantastic writers, and practice reading your work to a small audience.
This is an opportunity to get feedback on your work in progress and practice your constructive critiquing skills. It is also a great way to get to know other writers in our group. You do not have to bring along work to participate. Please keep submissions to double-spaced, 12 font, two pages.
Please email your submissions to Terry and Mark by the Saturday before the session:
