SLO NightWriters General Meeting

SLO NightWriters general meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month, except during July and August, at The PG&E Education Center, 6588 Ontario Road, San Luis Obispo, CA, just off Highway 101 at the San Luis Bay Drive exit, 7 - 9 pm. Is Your Elevator Pitch Ready?
A Publishing Workshop with Stephen Blake Mettee

Polish and practice your elevator pitch because on April 12th there will be a publisher in the house! Be prepared to pitch your manuscript then check out Stephen Blake Mettee’s reaction. Volunteer or bring a copy to be randomly selected for review.

Mettee will also share his insights on publishing today regarding what’s happening and what’s not happening. Don’t miss what he has to say about the industry and about the concept you hope to publish.

Check out his credentials. He is the founder of Quill Driver Books and TheWriteThought.com.  He wrote The Fast-Track Course on How to Write a Nonfiction Book Proposal which has been adopted for use in university courses.

Mettee may have sold his publishing house but he’s still the acquisitions editor. And although the company’s focus is nonfiction, Mettee knows the drill. Practice makes perfect and practicing with an internationally experienced writers’ conference presenter is golden.

During his time at the helm of Quill Driver Books, Mettee shepherded two titles into Book-of-the-Month Club selections and one onto the New York Times bestseller list. In 2008, Mettee sold Quill Driver Books, but still acts as acquisitions editor for owner Kent Sorsky and, as such, is always in the market for exceptional nonfiction manuscripts.

Mettee’s latest project is the Classic Wisdom series of out-of-print books offered through The Write Thought. Launching in April starting with 8 books on writing that are all previously Writers Digest Selections. The series will be delivered in the many ways books can be delivered digitally.

Mettee has edited more than 150 books and published countless nonfiction articles. He serves on the board of The Independent Book Publisher’s Association and regularly consults on and teaches writing and publishing, including several visits to the Central Coast Writers’ Conference.  He is also writing a nonfiction book on fund-raising and a novel set in the first century in between preparing for numerous writing conference presentations.
